Spring in the Studio

Can you believe spring is here? It feels both like a long-awaited time of year and that we just wrapped up the 2022 holiday season. This year especially brings a mix of emotions; a time of hope, joy, and renewal paired with a time of remembrance. This week, I am recognizing Passover, Easter along with my father’s birthday and passing anniversary.

Today the sun is shining, the forsythia are starting to open and it truly feels like spring. I am grateful to be making work and growing flowers to share happiness and wonder with you.

What has been going on the past few months?

If you follow along on social media, you may have noticed a bit less posting than usual. In January, I contracted COVID, followed by another type of infection in February which kept me out of the studio for quite some time.

As March came along, I was excited to participate in a crystalline glaze workshop with one of the best in the world, José Mariscal at the Dunedin Fine Arts Center in Dunedin, FL. While the workshop was only 2 days, it was a fabulous learning experience and a great opportunity to meet people I had only ‘met’/known about through groups online.

In the workshop we learned about different glazes, firing schedules, techniques, and shared ideas. But the best part was watching José at the wheel. His mastery of clay was unlike anything I had ever seen before in person. And the tips he shared have been a complete game-changer now that I am back in the studio. If you have not seen his work, you should check him out on social media or on his website. I am very fortunate to now have two of his pieces in my own collection.

Flower Updates

Many of you have been asking about dahlia tubers and tulip sales. The dahlia tubers will go on sale Saturday, April 15th, 2023 at 12:00pm ET. There is currently a list of available cultivars on the website- all items currently say SOLD OUT- don’t worry! The quantities will be updated at noon on April 15th. When shopping for tubers, it is easiest to purchase online. There you can view images and the description of each flower. If you would like to pick up in studio (instead of having the items shipped), please select ‘studio pickup’ at checkout and you will be able to pick up the tubers at your convenience.

The tulips are coming along quite nicely! Some of the varieties are a bit confused and have already started to open (with VERY short stems), but the rest of the fields are right on schedule. Depending on the weather, I might have bouquets available within the next 2 weeks. You will be able to place an order online here once I have availability.

Save the date!

The bi-annual pottery seconds sale and tulip mania will take place April 29th-30th from 9am-4pm. This will be the first open studio of the season and I will be excited to share some of the new crystalline pieces I have been working on along with the seconds and tulips.

Keep growing my friends!
